Skill based game

Unlike any other gambling games, poker is a very skill based game. That is what makes this game so unique. The skill of the player lies in outwitting the opponents. There is no single strategy which a player can employ to win. Poker has many different concepts and techniques which a player can employ to outsmart his opponents, make them do some mistakes and thus increase his chances of winning. A good and skilled poker player can win the pot even with a weak hand. Before going on to these concepts one must know the important decisions a player makes during the poker play. These choices or decisions are; open, call, raise, re raise, fold. When a player wants to place an initial bet, he may call out Open. When done in the first round of the game, it is called Opening the Pot. Some games have rules which say that only if a player has a Jack or a better card, can he open. When a player decides to pass, it called as Check that is zero bet. A free round is when a betting round is over without any additional money placed in the pot. A player Calls when he wants place a bet which is higher in amount than his previous bet. Raise is an additional increase to the bet amount. A player may Fold or drop out of the hand. That player is not required to place any bet in the pot. He has to discard the cards face down in the centre of the table also called the muck. Hence, folding is called mucking, sometimes.
