Raise

When a player calls Raise, there may be a strategy behind it. There are several reasons to call for a raise. If a player has a strong hand or probably the best hand, a raise will gets more money in the pot thus enabling him to win a big pot. Alternatively, a player with a good hand can drive the opponents out of the game so as to stop them from improving their hands. A player with an inferior of weak hand may raise as a bluffing or semi bluffing technique. This is generally done to persuade others to fold their hands. In a semi bluff, the player still has the chance to improve his weak hand. A player may Raise to get a free card thus getting a chance to improve his card. If the player thinks he has the second best hand, he may raise to push out the other players with worse hands who had the chance of improving their hands if they had stayed longer. This also increases his own chances of winning and improving his hand. Sometimes player Raises to get information about the strength of the opponent’s hands. When an opponent with a drawing hand bets, and the player raises, the players behind him Fold and not decide to call a Bet or Raise. It is a form of isolation play.
