Bluffing adn Slow playing

Bluffing and Slow playing are deception techniques which a player employs on his opponents. Bluffing is a very important weapon in a player’s arsenal. If a player never bluffs then he can be very predictable. Successful bluffs need good timing and understanding of the game. The player should also be a good judge of his opponents. Bluffing is when a player with an inferior hand bets or raises. The bluff is aimed at opponents so that they should fold up. Stone cold bluff or pure bluff is the player with a hand which has no chance, bet or raise and ultimately wins in a showdown. Semi bluff is a hand which has some chance of improving. Semi bluff gives a player a chance of improving the hand and also that opponent can fold up. The term ‘Steal’ in Poker is often used for bluffing. But it is different from bluffing. When a player Raises with a below average hand in anticipation that other players do not have a good enough hand to contest him and he wins the antes and blinds easily.  Steal is used by players in the ‘later’ position when many opponents have folded. With steals, a player can make profits if the other players sitting on his left are not strong enough to contest him. Most commonly steals are made by players in late position or when the game has few players. A skilled player can recognize if a player makes steals regularly and he can re-raise for defense.
